For many years Kenny worked as a musician, performing, conducting, and composing. This included stints as the musical director of the Edinburgh Univeristy Jazz Orchestra (1988-1993) and as the conductor of the University of Plymouth Orchestra (1996-2000).
As a performer (piano, prepared piano, trumpet with electronics), he has played venues across the UK, including the Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh (solo), the Great Hall, Dartington (duo with Coach York), and the 100 Club, London (with the Edinburgh University Jazz Orchestra).
